Overview: The Inuit, also known as Inuktitut, are a group of culturally similar indigenous peoples inhabiting the Arctic regions of Greenland, Canada, the United States and Russia. Inuit languages are classified under the Eskimo-Aleut family. The term 'Eskimo' is commonly used in the United States, however native communities in Canada and Greenland view 'Eskimo' as derogatory and prefer 'Inuit'. The Inuit people cluster encompasses several ethnic and linguistic varieties of Inuit.
