They are a central Bantu ethnic group indigenous to northern Mozambique and the southern border provinces of Tanzania. They are an Diaspora people, in the Bantu, Makua-Yao people cluster of the Sub-Saharan African affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Islam - Folk. They primarily speak Makhuwa-Meetto.
