They are a central Bantu ethnolinguistic group indigenous to Mozambique and can also be known as West Makua, Xirima, Eshirima, Echirima, Shirima, Makhuwa-Exirima, Emakhuwa Echirima, Makhuwa-Xirima, Chirima, Makhuwa-Niassa, Emakhua Eshirima. They are an Indigenous people, in the Bantu, Makua-Yao people cluster of the Sub-Saharan African Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion - Animism. They primarily speak Makhuwa-Shirima.
