They are a central Bantu ethnic group indigenous to southeast Tanzania and northern Mozambique They are an Indigenous people, in the Bantu, Makua-Yao people cluster of the Sub-Saharan African Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion. They primarily speak Makonde.
