They are an Amerindian tribe of Arawak extraction living along the middle Purus River in the state of Amazonas, Brazil and can also be known as Popengare, Kangitê, Popengare, Ipurina, Ipurinãn, Popukare, Ipurinãn, Kangite, Popingá (OLD). They are an Indigenous people, in the Amazon people cluster of the Latin-Caribbean Americans affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion - Animism. They primarily speak Apurinã.
