They are an indigenous community of Brazil and can also be known as A'we, Akewen, Pusciti, Tapa, Akwe, Awen, Akwen, Chavante, A’uwe (SELF), A’uwe (Autonym), Akuên, A'uwe Uptabi, Shavante, Crisca. They are an Indigenous people, in the South American Indigenous people cluster of the Latin-Caribbean Americans affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Christianity - Folk Catholicism. They primarily speak Xavánte.
