They are an ethno-linguistic subgroup of the Mixtec, an indigenous Mesoamerican people of Mexico. They are an Indigenous people, in the Mixtec people cluster of the Latin-Caribbean Americans affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Christianity - Folk Catholicism. They primarily speak Spanish.
