They are described as a socio-cultural community of India comprised of five subgroups: carpenters, blacksmiths, bronzesmiths, goldsmiths, and stonemasons They are an Indigenous people, with Viswakarma as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Viswakarma people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism. They primarily speak Tamil.
