They are an Indigenous (Adivasi) tribal community of central‑eastern India, traditionally forest‑dwelling and agriculturally oriented, with a distinct cultural identity shaped by both tribal and Hindu influences They are an Indigenous people, in the Munda-Santal people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion - Animism. They primarily speak Chhattisgarhi.
