The Aghori of India

The Aghori of India, numbering approximately 20,000 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are described as a Maithili-speaking community of West Bengal's Purulia district who claim descent from Gowala milkmen and historically subsisted by begging and selling herbal medicines. They are organized into clans governed by a jati panch council They are an Indigenous people, with Aghori as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Bihari people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism. They primarily speak Maithili.
