The Turha of India

The Turha of India, numbering approximately 344,000 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are a community of Samastipur, Darbhanga, and Muzaffarpur districts, Bihar, once palanquin-bearers, traditionally sellers of vegetables, fruit, and fish. This trade continues, supplemented by government service and self-employment. They are an Indigenous people in the Bihari people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Maithili and their primary religion is Folk Hinduism.
