They are an ethnic group indigenous to the Senegambia region and widely disbursed in Sahara, Sahel, and West Africa and can also be known as Toucouleur. They are an Indigenous people, in the Fulani / Fulbe people cluster of the Sub-Saharan African affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Islam - Sunni. They primarily speak Pulaar.
