They are a subgroup of the African American ethnic group who predominantly inhabit the remote barrier islands of South Carolina and Georgia. They are an Indigenous people, in the Afro-American people cluster of the North American Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Protestantism. They primarily speak Sea Island English Creole.
