They are a widespread South Asian artisan community historically specialized in tailoring and garment production, with both Hindu and Muslim branches and a strong tradition of textile craftsmanship. They are an Indigenous people in the Darzi people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Hindi and their primary religion is Hinduism.
