They are the main ethnic group of Türkiye (Turkey) and one of the largest Turkic-speaking populations in the world. They are an Indigenous people in the Turkic people cluster of the Turkic Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Turkish and their primary religion is Sunni Islam.
