They are described as a small community of the Phulbani and Ganjam hills in Odisha, Oriya-speaking with some Kui, formerly warriors under feudal lords, now settled cultivators and wage laborers They are an Indigenous people, with Guna (India) as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Odia people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism. They primarily speak Odia.
