Overview: The Southern Kurds of Iran have a population of 1,500,000. They are part of the Kurd people cluster. This people group is found only in Iran. Their primary language is Southern Kurdish - (sdh). The primary religion practiced by the Southern Kurds is Sunni Islam, the largest branch of Islam. Sunni Muslims follow the teachings of the Quran and consider the first four caliphs to be the rightful successors of Muhammad. Their GSEC status is 2, which means this people group is less than 2% evangelical but there has been initial or concentrated church planting among them within the past two years.
